Andrew: It’s been awhile since I’ve posted because my life has been more focused on baby than beer, which is a good thing … except that I’m very tired all the time and never get to drink all the beer I buy!
Anyway, I found some time to drink a beer and post …
I’ve been wanting to post about International Stout Day, which was November 8. I celebrated the holiday by eating meatballs from The Meatball Shop. How does that fulfill a stout celebration?
Well, I also got some amazing freshly baked pecan cookies from the restaurant as dessert to pair with EvilTwin’s Imperial Biscotti Break. I’ve only had the Decicco’s version (brewed with hazelnut and chili) of this fantastic stout a couple times: once at The Festival and once at Torst. This was the first time I’ve had the regular version. I’ve been letting this age for about 6 months and the result was really nice.
It did not lose any of the intense coffee flavor (that can happen from aging a coffee stout), but the aging helped to mellow the alcohol edge a bit. The coffee flavor paired perfectly with the pecan cookies. It was a great way to celebrate the holiday.
I’m excited to pick up a bottle of their limited cherry version Imperial Biscotti Break Natale Pretty Please With A Cherry on Top tomorrow. 🙂
