There’s a new brewer in town! Little Blind is the brainchild of Drew Bombard, a new gypsy brewer in the booming New York beer scene. Bombard started off as a microbiologist, but soon took his science skills to Colorado’s world-famous New Belgium Brewing. Now he’s using his love and knowledge of microbes to brew his own beer.
As a lover of sour beers and hazy IPAs, I knew I needed to try Little Blind’s first offering as soon as possible. Vol. 1: Forma Futura (5.5% ABV) is a sour, hazy IPA style that Bombard calls “DDH Sour Haze.”
You can buy the beer TOMORROW, May 11, 12 p.m., at TapRm Cold Beer Room (284 Flushing Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11205) in the Brooklyn Navy Yard. (Check out my review of TapRm’s shipping service.)
Bombard brewed the beer at Great South Bay Brewery in Long Island and maintains his cultures of homegrown lactobacillus wild yeast in his apartment. To haze-it-up, Forma Futura was brewed with malted and unmalted wheat and oats and it’s generously hopped with Idaho Gem and Idaho 7 hop varietals.
I am a big fan of this beer. It’s super refreshing and light—just in time for the warmer weather hitting the city. It has big lemony notes without being overly acidic and it’s nicely balanced with some mild sweetness.
Vol. 1 a great start from this new local brewer and I can’t wait to try Vol. 2! Best of luck, Drew!
